Around 80 people, including several Monegasque and Zontian personalities from abroad, joyfully gathered at the Monte-Carlo Country-Club, on June 18, to celebrate the 25 years of actions of the Zonta Club of Monaco serving women of all ages and all walks of life, but also the 100th anniversary of Zonta International created in 1919 by a small group of avant-garde women from Buffalo NY USA.
During the evening, the Zonta Club Monaco awarded the Centennial Community Award to Ms. Céline Cottalorda for her commitment to women’s rights.
The twenty women who make up the Club de Monaco, created by Alessandrina Franzoi Aureglia in 1994, and at the moment, under the Chairmanship of Ms. Gisèle Treves for the 2018-2020 biennium, meet once a month to organize local actions to raise awareness and assist women. Thanks to this work, the Zonta Club of Monaco now collaborates with the Committee for the Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights, created in 2018 in accordance with HSH Prince Albert II, to reduce gender discrimination. Also present were representative members of the Monaco Z Club which brings together young people from 14 to 17 years of age.
At the service of the collective rather than the individual, the Zonta Club of Monaco, however, also participates in targeted actions such as the surgical operation carried out last June at the Cardio-thoracic Center on a Malian girl, Khadijatou, in collaboration with the research and studies association of the Cardio-thoracic Center. This young girl is slowly recovering at the Cardio-thoracic Center and will soon join a family of the Association Rencontre Africaine who will take care of her during her recovery period.
